Audience Reaction to Godland

There were 13 reaction slips returned following the screening of this film.  The responses were:

  • ‘Excellent’: 5 votes
    • Reminded me very much of early Herzog films.  Stunningly beautiful landscapes with the naïve explorer completely out of his depth slowly being driven mad.
    • The film is like a trip into a past world invoked with painstaking detail: the pace crucial for this world to materialise.  Yet there in a world beyond – a spiritual one – and the journeys depicted in the film show humanity aching for more but never finding it.  The priest is redundant.
    • What a truly brilliant film – every shot a work of art.
    • A remarkable cinematic feat!  One to absorb and remember! Super!
  • ‘Very Good’: 6 votes
    • Very absorbing, excellent camera-work and good storytelling.
    • Breathtaking scenery and haunting, even if rather languid in its pace!
    • The 2 hours flew by, so I must have enjoyed it.
    • Very dramatic landscape. Incessant rain would drive people mad!  Bit grim but well made and interesting.  The amusing parts were welcome light relief.
  • ‘Good’: 1 vote
    • Liked the evolution of the story & the cinematography but 30 minutes too long.  Over-indulgence by the director.
  • ‘Satisfactory’: 1 vote
    • Too long.  More questions than answers.
  • ‘Poor’: 0 votes
