Audience reaction to “Zone of Interest”

14 people responded. The breakdown and comments were:

  • ‘Excellent’: 9 votes
    • Incredible use of sound to convey the horror occurring just the other side of the brick wall.
    • Must never forget what is normalised in the conscious
      Continue you to question
      Damage done in the subconscious
      Cinematography excellent
      Very well-presented piece of art.
    • The holocaust as a slice of everyday life.
    • Monstrous evil conveyed so chillingly by the soundtrack and set in juxtaposition with, on the surface, ‘normal’ family life.
    • Gruelling, but so important.
    • Second time of watching, more powerful than 1st time around.  The subtlety with which the horror was shown makes this a standout film.
    • This is little to say, but so much to say.  We live in such terrible times again – a warning to us all.
    • Obscene
  • ‘Very Good’: 4 votes
    • Intense, uncomfortable & poignant.  Well done Peter for your excellent introduction tonight.
    • Disturbing!
  • ‘Good’: 1 vote
    • Very thought provoking film portraying it from the German side – to be nice people.
  • ‘Satisfactory’: 0 votes
  • ‘Poor’: 0 votes

Our Next Presentation: Zone Of Interest (Thursday 27 February)

-50Days -1Hours -2Minutes -52Seconds

Chelmsford Theatre Studio, Fairfield Road @ 8PM (Doors open 7:15)

The commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss, and his wife Hedwig, strive to build a dream life for their family in a house and garden next to the camp – it is hard to imagine that just a hair’s breadth away from the peaceful and idyllic Höss household, the unimaginable horrors of the Final Solution are unfolding in full swing.  When evil becomes banal and apathy requires no effort, what separates man from beast?
