I am curious as to why the British distributors decided to deviate from the film's original title "Wakoda" (the name of Lilith's doll) - given how important the symbolism of the dolls were to the understanding of the film. For Josef Mengele, lacking any humanity or moral compass, the children he experimented on were no more to him than dolls.

Having digested the film a little more, it seems that a very important strand was the dynamics between the family: husband, wife, Lilith and the anxiety of the mother to ensure that her twins grew 'normally'. The father may well have wanted to produce a perfect doll, but saw the difference between that and the 'inhumanity' - the futility -of attempting to produce perfect human beings.
