China in the 1920’s. After her father’s death the 19 year old Songlian is forced
to marry the 50 year old Chen Zuoqian, who already has 3 wives each in a separate house.
The competition between the wives is tough as their master’s attention carries power,
status and privilege. Each night the women scheme and plot to make sure that Chen hangs
