    • Not so much a film about child abuse, rather a story of a child finding strength when her world is turned upside down.  Terrific performances from the 2 young leads and directed with great sensitivity.
    • An excellent film.  Quite haunting.
    • An outstanding portrayal of a damaged child. Very emotional.
    • A remarkably assured début from Zelda Samson as “child-woman” Dalva. Haunting, unsettling and unforgettable.
    • One of the most humane films I have ever seen. Marked by superb performances. And the perfectly judged transition from pseudo woman to child was a joy to behold.
    • Amazing film. So sensitively told and so well acted.
    • Difficult subject dealt with sensitively.
    • Zelda Samson deserves the Oscar.
    • Great demonstration of why it takes girls/women years to report their abusers.
      Great casting & acting.
    • Excellent performances, esp. Dalva & Samia.  Very much enjoyed the study of such families.
    • Sad – one confused girl.
    • I met this child once!
  • “Very Good”: 6 votes
    • All aspects of cinematography were impressive.
    •  Very sensitively filmed. Dalva showed all the mixed emotions.
    • Could it have a ‘happy ending’. A gripping drama – excellent performances – especially from the girls – Samia & Dalva.
    • Shocking – excellent young actors.
    • Very traumatic – is our care system any better? I have my doubts.
      Excellent performances – very harrowing.
    • Thought provoking.

Audience Reaction to Godland

    • Reminded me very much of early Herzog films.  Stunningly beautiful landscapes with the naïve explorer completely out of his depth slowly being driven mad.
    • The film is like a trip into a past world invoked with painstaking detail: the pace crucial for this world to materialise.  Yet there in a world beyond – a spiritual one – and the journeys depicted in the film show humanity aching for more but never finding it.  The priest is redundant.
    • What a truly brilliant film – every shot a work of art.
    • A remarkable cinematic feat!  One to absorb and remember! Super!
  • ‘Very Good’: 6 votes
    • Very absorbing, excellent camera-work and good storytelling.
    • Breathtaking scenery and haunting, even if rather languid in its pace!
    • The 2 hours flew by, so I must have enjoyed it.
    • Very dramatic landscape. Incessant rain would drive people mad!  Bit grim but well made and interesting.  The amusing parts were welcome light relief.
  • ‘Good’: 1 vote
    • Liked the evolution of the story & the cinematography but 30 minutes too long.  Over-indulgence by the director.
  • ‘Satisfactory’: 1 vote
    • Too long.  More questions than answers.

    • Brilliant – The cinematography of Jack Cardiff was literally ‘out of this world’!
Stood the test of time, despite the stagey performances of some.
    • Beautifully shot in wonderful Technicolor. A real treat from a great film maker.
    • But sound very loud.
  • ‘Very Good’: 4 votes
    • A great film – so good to see it on a big screen, restored. So appropriate for Valentine’s Day!
    • Good that this was shown of Valentine’s Day. Nail biting stuff held one’s attention
throughout. Good morale booster for the future after WWII
    • An extraordinary achievement for its time; highly imaginative!
    • A novel idea. I was interested to hear the prosecution and defence. David Niven was a good
choice for the part – lovely eyes
  • ‘Good’: 2 votes
    • A bit too saccharine for my taste.
    • Entertaining but dated in terms of acting style.
